Rev. Dr. Virginia Ward is a native Bostonian and daughter of the church. Virginia has always had a love for youth. In February 2001, she became a licensed minister. In September 2003, she became an ordained minister.
Virginia is the Assistant Dean of the Boston Campus and Assistant Professor of Youth Ministry and Leadership at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Boston Campus, where she teaches classes in urban youth ministry, leadership, and directs mentored ministries.
Virginia served as the first full-time Youth Pastor of the Abundant Life Church. She also served as the Director of Black Campus Ministries (BCM), New England for Intervarsity, a campus-based organization that seeks to build spiritual communities of students and faculty.
Virginia attended Northeastern University and majored in management. She attended the Center for Urban Ministerial Education of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and majored in urban ministry. She received a Masters of Arts in Youth Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Virginia completed a Doctorate of Ministry in Emerging Generations at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Virginia serves as trainer for the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative; a national, faith-based urban youth leadership venture founded by the DeVos families. In April 1999, she completed the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative as the Boston City Coordinator and a participant. Virginia has served as a coach for youth workers in San Diego, Detroit, and Pittsburgh and New York. She is a keynote and workshop speaker for the Orange Tour and national youth worker conferences. Virginia has also served as the lead instructor for Gordon-in-Boston, the cross-cultural experience for students attending Gordon College.
She is the wife of 35 years of Bishop Lawrence Ward, Pastor of the Abundant Life Church in Cambridge, MA., and the mother of two adult sons, Paul and Mark.
